Case Details

Patient

Male, late 60s

Presentation

Upper left second molar causing pain on biting and prolonged sensitivity to cold. The roots showed significant curvature on the referral radiograph.

The Challenge

Upper second molars often have converging or curved roots that are difficult to instrument. The palatal root curved sharply in this case, requiring careful file selection to avoid procedural errors.

Treatment

Pre-curved hand files established a glide path in all canals. Flexible heat-treated rotary files were used to shape the canals while respecting their natural anatomy. Thorough irrigation ensured disinfection of curved areas that files cannot directly touch.

Outcome

All canals treated to their full length. Complete symptom resolution with the tooth fully functional.
