The main treatment drains the abscess to ease pressure and remove the infection source. In many cases this first step leads into root canal work, often started within the same 60 to 90 minute visit. Our goal is your comfort and to address the cause right away.

After emergency care you should feel much less pain as the pressure is relieved. Some tenderness may remain as the area heals. Days 1 to 3 bring mild to moderate tenderness that can be managed with over‑the‑counter pain relief. Eat soft foods and avoid very hot or cold items. Rinse with warm salt water after 24 hours to keep the area clean. Week 1 should bring reduced tenderness and a follow up to finish the root canal and plan a final crown to protect the tooth. Red flags during office hours are if pain worsens after day 3, swelling returns, or fever develops. For emergencies outside office hours call 111 or go to A&E.

This relieves infection quickly and costs less upfront, but it means losing the tooth and may cause shifting of nearby teeth and bone loss.
