When you arrive for an urgent appointment, our aim is to get you out of pain quickly. The process starts with a 30 to 45 minute diagnostic assessment. We listen to your symptoms and perform a clinical examination. Then we use digital imaging and a 3D CBCT scan to get a precise view of the tooth’s root structure and confirm the problem. After that we numb the area with strong local anesthesia. The initial step, called pulp extirpation, involves opening the tooth, removing the inflamed nerve tissue, and placing a sedative dressing inside. This part usually takes 60 to 90 minutes and provides immediate relief from acute pain. You will be scheduled for a follow up to complete the full root canal treatment.

After your emergency treatment you will feel significant relief from the worst pain. Some tenderness is normal as the anesthetic wears off and the area heals. In the first 24 to 48 hours you may have mild to moderate discomfort, which you can manage with over the counter painkillers like ibuprofen. Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until a permanent restoration is placed. Stick to soft foods such as soup, yogurt, and smoothies.
