Recovery is usually straightforward. For the first 24 to 48 hours you may have swelling and minor discomfort, which is easily managed with over-the-counter painkillers such as ibuprofen and by applying a cold pack to the cheek in 20 minute intervals. Stick to soft foods for a few days and avoid vigorous rinsing or brushing around the surgical site. Most people return to normal activities the next day. You will receive detailed aftercare instructions. Red flags requiring a call: contact us during office hours if you experience severe, increasing pain after day 3, uncontrolled bleeding, or a fever above 38 C. For emergencies outside these hours, go to the nearest A and E or call NHS 111.
