Use an ice pack on the area for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off during the first 24 hours. Eat soft foods such as soup and yogurt and avoid chewing on the surgical side. In the first week the initial discomfort should lessen. Keep the area clean by rinsing with warm salt water after meals. Be gentle with brushing near the site until your follow-up. Most patients resume normal activities within a couple of days, though avoid strenuous exercise for the first week.
