Use an ice pack for 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off for the first 24 hours to reduce swelling. Eat soft foods and avoid chewing on the treated side for a few days. Rinse with salt water starting the day after surgery to keep the area clean. Red flags during office hours include severe or increasing pain after day 3, swelling that worsens after 72 hours, a fever above 38 C, and continuous bleeding that does not stop with pressure.
